Scholars -    Remember “Think like a Middle Scholar”.  We really need you to think independently about what is due and when! Those of you still getting many reminders, we want you to challenge yourself to get HALF of those reminders and DOUBLE your success! You can do it! Help each other to stay on task.  We know that it is enjoyable to talk to your friends and we love that you have so many friendships BUT we are here to do a job so do it well!!  In the morning, you should 1. Read the SMART Board FIRST because that is where you are going to find what is expected with you during that time.  We have begun morning word problems and it is up to you to have the copied down and solved! This is what we are adding in so we can continue to work on the math objectives you struggled with as a class while moving forward with other objectives.  Write on the back of the sheet how you feel now about 5.NBT. 7.  Do you feel as though you know it consistently or inconsistently?  If it is inconsistently please add how WE can better help you so we can “fill that gap”.

Parents – Math Curriculum Night is this week on January 28th with Mrs. P.F.  Please visit the Brassfield website and take the survey monkey if you are going to attend.  There is also free child care available.  If you have any questions please let us know. It is that time of the year for sickness, if you have any extra boxes of Kleenexes or Clorox wipes for the classroom, we would appreciate the donation as we are getting quite low.  THANK YOU for ALL of your contributions, they never go unnoticed or unused;).  We are beginning fractions on Monday and we will be working with them for weeks as it is approximately 50% of our End of Grade Test this year. We will send in our order for G5/T2 t-shirts by trackout on February 13th.  We have had several families offer to buy a scholar a t-shirt and that has REALLY made some scholars day! They are very appreciative of that so thank you!  If you have any concerns or questions don’t ever hesitate to contact us and as always, thank you for your support! Stacy and Laura

Happy Martin Luther King's Day G5/T2

Scholars -    Thank you for all of your flexibility in our 2 hour delay days! I know it has been a difficult week because we were not able to get outside and enjoy some fresh air! You did a wonderful job though! Remember….think like a middle school scholar.  This is our time to train our brain! When you have a few minutes think about what you can accomplish during that time, what do I owe, what can I accomplish, what can I be doing to be successful! We have completed 5.OA.3, analyzing patterns and relationships.  We encourage you to play the different math games on our blog at home.  We have noticed that you are not using PISA while solving your math word problems, the problem with that often times is that you are using correct computation BUT you are not answering WHAT the problem is asking so therefore the answer is incorrect. It’s the middle of January, how is your New Year’s Resolution that you created a couple weeks ago coming along.  Write your update on the back of the Buzz now.

Parents – Please return report card envelopes as soon as you can and let us know if you would like us to schedule a conference.  Our math coach will be hosting a Math Curriculum night from 6-7pm on January 28th here at Brassfield.  It should be quite informative. The Kid Gov, with the help of Ms. Missy Abi-Najm have found somebody to make our very own G5/T2 t-shirts for $7.00 a piece.  We would love to see each scholar get one, if you didn’t receive the order form let us know and we will get another home to you.  We have been getting many complaints from the cafeteria about table manners and playing.  Please talk to your scholar about using the manners that we know that you have taught them.

Here is what is going on since the beginning of 2015!

Scholars -    Thank you for having a great week back in.  It was really wonderful to see all of you! Remember, out motto these next 2 quarters is to think like a middle school student! What does that mean? How are YOU organizing your thoughts, assignments that you need to have completed, odd and ends of responsibilities at school.  We really want YOU to take advantage of these next 2 quarters to get a system in place so when you go next year, you will have already “trained” your brain for this! We just want you to be very successful next year in the transition….So, write on the back what you know you need help with before going to middle school and how we can support you!

Parents – We have had a wonderful week back to school.  The kids seem to jump in and get back to routine quickly.  We have a new music teacher and technology teacher.  The kids met Mrs. Howly this week(tech teacher) and hope to meet the music teacher next.  The applications are out for the Math and Science Extravaganza.  The Extravaganza will be on Thursday February 12th.
