Running Club Update for 10/10/2018

Due to the rainy weather today, and the wet conditions of the track, field, and trail areas where we run, running club will be cancelled today. Please make arrangements for your student to get home after school at normal time. We will plan to have running club next Wednesday!

**Don't forget to sign up for the Angus Barn 5k for this Sunday, October 14th. We are very excited about this awesome event! Sign up here (https://event.racereach.com/walk-for-hope/register) using Brassfield Running Club as the team name. We will all meet by the starting line at 7:45am for a group photo! Please wear either this year's running club shirt or a yellow/neon colored shirt so that we can all match and find each other. Please make sure you have someone available to run with your student as this is an off campus event.

Attention 3rd Grade Students and Families!

In Wake County 3rd Grade students all take the CogAT test.  This test is a series of 9 tests that are each 10 minutes long.  They take 3 tests a day for three days.  If your child has one score of 85% and above, with parental permission, we will then administer the IOWA test.  This test takes two days.  Your child will take Reading one day and Math the following.  Each test takes approximately one hour.
Any child that has TWO scores of 95% and above in BOTH areas of English Language Arts and Math will qualify for AIG services that begin quarter 4 of 3rd Grade.  If your child has one score of 95% and above in either qualifying area, additional tests are administered individually to try to get a second qualifying score.

The CogAT tests will be administered for Tracks 1 on Monday, August 27 - 29, 2018 and for Tracks 2, 3, 4 on Monday, September 17 - 19, 2018.  Tests will begin at 9:30am

The IOWA tests have been scheduled for Tracks 1&2 on Monday, November 5 - 6, 2018 and for Tracks 3&4 for Tuesday, November 27 - 28, 2018.  These tests will also begin promptly at 9:30 am.

If you have any questions please feel free to reach out to me, Stacy Kesssler - skessler@wcpss.net

Interested in Running Club?

Calling all 3rd, 4th and 5th grade students that enjoy running and would like to prepare for a race (1 mile, 2 mile, or 5k). You should join the Brassfield running club!   During our weekly runs, we will work on building endurance and speed while fostering a love of running.  The club will begin on Wednesday, March 14th, and will meet weekly on Wednesdays from 3:45-4:45.  Our last running club will be Wednesday, May 23rd. Students are welcomed to attend running club over their track out if someone is available to drop them off at the track, sign in with a coach, and pick them up at the carpool loop after practice as usual. The runners must be picked up promptly at 4:45 in the carpool parking loop.  We expect that all students participating in our running club with exhibit PAWS behavior. Runners will receive one warning for poor behavior choices. After the one warning, runners who are continuing to make poor behavior choices will be asked to leave the club.  If you have questions, feel free to contact Libby Lipetzky (elipetzky@wcpss.net).  Happy Running!
