Science Olympiad 2023 - 2024

 The Science Olympiad after-school club will begin meeting on Monday August 28th from 4:15-5:15 in the Media Center. If interested, you will need to submit the registration form and fee to the Brassfield office. Contact hpelletier@wcpss.net for more information or to volunteer. These 15 sessions are for grades 3-5. Club meets whenever school is in session. Students may attend when tracked out. Registration is $45 which covers tournament fees, team shirt, and supplies. Payment is due by our first club meeting on August 28th. (Make checks payable to BRES PTA with Science Olympiad on memo line). After winter break, students who are chosen to compete in the regional tournament will meet at various times to practice for competition. The tournament (TBD) is usually held on a Saturday in March or April..

Welcome to the 2023 - 2024 School Year

 Hi Scholars,

Tracks 1 and 3, we will begin classes the week of July 17th.  The Entrance Ticket links have been added so please come prepared.  This year we will be studying countries around the world.

Kids who scored a 95% + on a math or reading EOG!

 We have had many questions pertaining to kids qualifying for AIG using only a EOG score.  A new AIG plan was written for 2022 - 2023 and now if a child scores a 95%+ we are to complete a "data dig".  All current report card scores, standardized tests, work samples STAR math reports, MClass, previous years EOG scores if applicable are applied to gain the points needed to qualify a child.

BEAR Patrol and Green Team Snacks

 Each week kids that actively participate on the Green Team or BEAR Patrol receive a weekly snack.  If you would like to help thank them a snack donation would be sincerely appreciated.

Science Olympiad

 Brassfield's Science Olympiad team is looking for 3-4 students to fill some unexpected vacancies in our upcoming tournament on April 15th. The tournament is on a Saturday and will last most of the day. It will be held at Southern High School in Durham, NC. Practices are scheduled after/before school with a single partner and can be flexible.

Available events include:

Super Sleuths ( forensics, chemistry, hair, fiber analysis...)

Body Builders (bones, muscles)

Data Crunchers (collecting data and reading charts/graphs)

Science Sketchers (like Pictionary using a set of science vocabulary)
