An Important message from Senor Lipetzky
Hola padres!
The students in Mrs. Graf's and Ms. Kessler's class have been working very hard this quarter in Spanish class! They have been writing an All About Me paragraph in their Spanish notebooks that they will be bringing home to read to you this week for homework. I am very impressed with how far they have come and am extremely proud of them, as I am sure you will be too! Please allow your student to read their paragraph to you this week and please sign their paragraph in their Spanish journal. The students will be showing me these signatures next week during Spanish for a homework completion grade.
I encouraged the students to show you the rest of their journals as well, and to explain that they did not use any notes to help them wherever they wrote a "star" in their paragraph. I will be checking signatures for Group B on Wednesday, August 17 and Group A on Thursday August 18th. These will be the times the students are in Spanish! Thank you and enjoy! :)

Brassfield Weekly
Open House for Tracks 1, 2, and 3 is on Tuesday, July 19th at 5:30 pm or 6:15 pm. We’ve set two start times to hopefully make parking a little easier, as well as give teachers the opportunity to give a brief presentation before engaging in questions and conversation. If you have multiple children, please feel free to visit one class at 5:30 and the other at 6:15. If you have more than 2 kids at Brassfield, we understand if you're jumping between sessions ;) Track 4, we’ll have a separate open house for you on Tuesday August 9th.
Our Brassfield Backpack Buddies program needs your help in providing food for our school community! North Raleigh Ministries generously supports our school during the traditional calendar year, but we need some extra help over the summer months. When you come to Open House, please bring a few food items to help fill our shelves!
WCPSS elementary school breakfast and lunch prices have increased by $.25 this year. Breakfast is now $1.25 and lunch is $2.25. If you believe your family may qualify for free or reduced price lunches, you may pick up an application in our front office, or send in a note requesting that we send an application home with your child.
Applications for this year's Coding Club are now being accepted for Tracks 1, 2 and 3 from July 11- July 22. Please see our blog, which is hosted on the Brassfield website under Student Activities at for more information.
Mr. Turley would like to let all Safety Patrol students and their families know that the schedule is now on our website under the Quick Links section on the right hand side of the main page.
The Brassfield WALKATHONS will be here before we know it! Walkathon is sponsored by the PTA, and is the primary fundraiser for the year. This year, all money collected above what is needed to sustain PTA operations will be dedicated to refreshing classroom technology. Tracks 1 & 3 should have received information in their Wednesday folders this week; their Walkathon will be on Friday, September 2nd. Tracks 2 & 4 will receive information packets in Wednesday folders on 8/10 and their Walkathon will be Friday, September 23rd.
Families, please be aware that due to a network upgrade, Brassfield will be without internet this coming Monday, July 18th. Therefore, will not be able to register volunteers, and staff will not be able to access email. We should be back up and running on Tuesday.
Speaking of volunteers - are you one of our regulars??? Please remember that volunteers must re-register each year! Registration can only be done at the school, so the next time you're here (other than Monday), pop in to the Learning Commons to get signed up for the 2016-2017 school year.
Are you on Twitter? Now you can now keep up to date on Brassfield news, events, and announcements @BrassfieldElem!

SEESAW Sign Up!
Dear Parents,
This year we're going to use a new tool to share what we're learning in class called Seesaw. Your child will have his or her own learning journal, and you can get notified when your child adds new items. It's completely private -- only you can see your child's journal outside of class. Click on the link for your student's class to sign up -- it takes just 30 seconds. Once you sign up, you can download the Seesaw Parent app for iPhone or Android, or access your child's journal on the web. Thanks!

- No breakfast or lunch will be served (encourage students to bring a good snack!)
- There is no recess.

A message from the Learning Commons
Hi All,
I just wanted to make you aware of a resource that is available to us free in NC WiseOwl. The eBook collection can be accessed by clicking on the menu on the left side of the main NC WiseOwl screen. Students can even access these from home but will need to use the password wiseowl15. The books range in skill level and interest level appropriate for grades K-8 but you can set specific search parameters for your target audience. The books are full text and have the color illustrations or photographs exactly as they appear in the print version of a text. The books can also be downloaded to a device and accessed offline. I have found great Non-fiction texts for animal research here since we do not have enough copies in our physical collection.
If you would like more information or need help with this resource please let me know! -
- Ms. Harkey
