Great Information about Brian Selznick Book Signing!! Coming Soon! I'll post more before October 16th!
You can get tickets a couple of ways:
- Buy "The Marvels" from Quail Ridge and get as many as five tickets for the program. You'll also get a ticket for the signing line to have him sign your book. The book sells for $32.99. It's best to call the store to order your book as soon as you know you're going so you can get an earlier signing line ticket.
- $5 admission only tickets also are available (but you won't get a ticket for the signing line).
A message from Spanish!
This fall, the students at Brassfield will be learning all about the cultural practices, products, and perspectives of the Mexican people! We are going to be studying the popular Mexican holiday, El Dia de Los Muertos (Day of the Dead). Day of the Dead is celebrated on November 1st and 2nd. The Mexican people celebrate the lives of their loved ones who have passed away, and during these 2 days they participate in many traditions! The students will be learning about Mexican traditions such as making sugar skulls, eating sweet bread (pan de muerto), decorating houses with marigolds, and special Day of the Dead dances. 5th graders will even get to decorate their own sugar skull to bring home! Because of track out schedules, Track 3 will be participating in these activities on Monday, October 19. Tracks 1,2,4 will be participating in these activities during the week of the actual holiday. If you have any questions about the activities that we will participate in during class, please do not hesitate to email me directly at elipetzky@wcpss.net. Gracias!

Time for Recorders!
Hello Parents!
I am excited to share that during the second quarter in Music, students will be learning how to play the recorder in class! Recorders provide a unique and authentic education of music fundamentals, solo/group performance, and expression. For sanitation purposes, I require that students own a personal recorder that they can use for class and home. It will be the student’s responsibility to bring their recorder to class on the day that they have Music. Recorders can be purchased at any community music store and typically range from $3-$12. Different color options are available for your student; I do not have any preference as to what they choose. You can visit the stores listed for any musical needs:
Music & Arts
Poyner Place
5950 Poyner Village Pkwy f101
5950 Poyner Village Pkwy f101
Raleigh, NC 27616
Falls River Music
10930 Raven Ridge Road #103
Raleigh, NC 27614
During this time, students will be practicing at home. I encourage you to be supportive in their musical journey and listen to their performances! Exploration and trial-and-error are the most helpful learning tools when learning an instrument. Encourage your student to practice for the best musical experience!
We will begin our recorder lessons the week of October 13th! If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to email me at ocolon2@wcpss.net.
Thank You!
